Welcome to Åt Kotyre, a dynamic playground of garments and sewing patterns where we celebrate what is out of the ordinary and quirky, as we believe that life is too short to wear boring clothes. Åt Kotyre was founded by me, Mathilde Mortensen — a multi-creator blending fashion, craft, and sculpture. With experience from Danish brands like Helmstedt and Stem, and a degree in Sustainable Fashion Technology, my work varies from garment design to whimsical paper maché creations.

I started the brand from an exploration of the emotional connection we carry for some of the garments in our wardrobe, as I was interested in how I as a designer can ensure a long life for my garment design. Through wardrobe studies around Copenhagen, I found that we especially connect with three types of garments:


ESSENTIALS __ CORE COLLECTION
We all rely on those go-to wardrobe staples — the pieces that just work, again and again. That’s the thinking behind our core collection: Åt Kotyre ESSENTIALS. These are crafted from high-quality materials and is our permanent collection. We might change the color and material from time to time, or add some new pieces as we mostly work with low quantity textiles handpicked from all around.

UNIQUES __ ONE-OF-A-KIND'S
Some garments stay with us because they’re unlike anything else. In my own wardrobe, it’s always the "one-of-a-kind" pieces that I treasure the most. Our UNIQUES are created from discarded textiles that show signs of their past life. Each piece is shaped by its own story — no two are alike.

EMOTIONALS __ SEWING PATTERNS
The last type of garment that lasts for a lifetime, are the ones that we have made ourselves. I have seen throughout most of my life, that making your own clothes creates a deeper, more personal bond with what you wear. That’s why every Åt Kotyre design will also be available as a sewing pattern. This is also our way of opening up the often exclusive world of fashion and inviting you to be a part of the creative process. Stay tuned — our first pattern drop is on the way! <333


WHY "ÅT KOTYRE"?
The name ‘Åt Kotyre’ was inspired by a desire to challenge the exclusivity of the fashion industry’s ‘Haute Couture’, as well as bringing back the very roots of ‘Haute Couture’, namely the handiwork of making a garment. Rooted in the vibrant city of Copenhagen, Denmark, the ‘Å’ in our name reflects our local heritage and the spirit of Danish design, as every piece is meticulously designed right here in Copenhagen.

90% of our production is also done in-house by me, Mathilde, this is why most of our garments has a production time of 20 days (or less), as I sew the garment after it has been ordered to minimize over production, also commonly know as "made-to-order".
